Spring Awakening

No, I did not watch the musical, but the title seemed appropriate for my spring break this year. I feel both exhausted and refreshed from my spring break - it's hard to explain. With every increase in clarity, comes an increase in ambiguity. It's frustrating and liberating and none of this is made better by the influence of medicine in my system.

If only.

Hotel Cafe Tour

Last night, I went to the Hotel Cafe tour at the Anaheim House of Blues, and I kind of loved it. The show boasted the likes of Jim Bianco, Greg Laswell, Jessie Baylin, Kate Havnevik, Cary Brothers, and Ingrid Michaelson. They are all really amazing to see live.

Highlights:

  • Jim Bianco is hilarious. He's got this great raspy, deep voice that adds to his slightly creepy wonderfulness.
  • Kate Havnevik is really gorgeous, and sings even more beautifully live, than any recording she has ever made.
  • Ingrid Michaelson is so cute. She did a cover of Creep on the ukelale and a cover of the theme song for Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
  • All of the artists came on stage drinking - it was great.
  • Ingrid Michaelson, a back up singer from the band (Ann ?), and Jessie Baylin graced the crowd with a really beautiful rounding song called Chain.
  • It was a small venue, so it felt really intimate, like all of the artists (who are good friends in real life) were letting us hang out with them and listen to them jam. Pretty awesome.
I really loved the show. I would have loved it more if I could have been sitting (I'm extremely sore from standing for 3.5 hours), but it was worth it. I fully plan to attend the Hotel Cafe Tour next year.

Here, watch a clip (not from last night) of Ingrid Michaelson's Fresh Prince of Bel Air:

!!!EDIT!!!

I found the clip of Jessie Baylin, Allie Moss, and Ingrid Michaelson from the same night!

All of the artists singing (with the crowd!). Haha, Jim Bianco is awesome.

Cleanliness is My Happiness

Last night, I was unable to fall asleep, and to kill time, I began cleaning my room. For those of you who don't know, I painted my room in January, and up until recently, had not finished putting my room back together. My bookshelves were bare and their contents in boxes. My floor was littered with clothes - evidence of my daily morning rush. Basically, it was just a mess.

I began by picking up and hanging up my clothes, which then led to the reorganizing of my closet - according to color and type of garment. And since I was already in my closet (I have a small walk in closet), this led to the reorganizing of my shoes according to type of shoe. After I was done cleaning my closet, I looked at my dresser. Now, my dresser is forever cluttered, and rarely can i see the top of it, because by the time I get home every night, I'm so exhausted, that all of my jewelry and the contents of my pockets are basically thrown on top of it. So obviously, I began to clean and reorganize my dresser - to the point where you can see the top and there is an air of purpose to the objects displayed upon it. While I was cleaning my dresser, I kept bumping into my boxes of books, so naturally, I began to unpack. I organized all my magazines in chronological order and size, as well as my books, alphabetized my CDs, re-stocked shelves with books, and figured out a way to cleverly hide my various assortment of kitschy figurines that were gifted to me by my grandmother. Lastly, I finally decided to hang some of my figure drawings on my wall. After I had tacked the last corner of my drawings, I stepped back, looked at the clock, and it was 6am.

The sad thing is, I enjoyed every last minute of it.

The sadder thing, though, is that I woke up this morning and took my car to a professional car wash and sat anxiously in the waiting area for my car, and was embarrassingly excited to see just how clean it was.

I know, I'm a bit manic in a strange sort of Martha Stewart way - but not always, just sometimes.

Oh, Ophelia

These past 2 week have been quite the roller coaster for me:

2 Weeks Ago:
  • got sick - again
  • studied for 2 midterms
  • studied the hardest and longest for my art history midterm. I felt very rusty with the whole studying thing.
  • played all weekend
  • shopped all weekend
  • spent more money than I should have
  • did absolutely no homework on the weekend
This Week:
  • had 2 subs in a row for my Monday classes (total god-send because, like I said, I hadn't finished any homework)
  • got an extension on my paper
  • found out I ACED my art history midterm
  • went to Abbot Kinney
  • got my swimsuit in the mail!
Now, the week is not over yet, so there may be more to come. All in all, there were some major highs and lows this week, but the highs made it all worth while.
